All this talk of Zuma getting off - um, possibly - needs to be talked about, I think.

Let's face it, no-one with half a brain thinks that an amiable fellow with the core of his popularity firmly rooted in the lower classes of uneducated riff-raff would make a good president. The Americans tried it on for size, and they even did it again, just to make sure. But George Dubbya didn't work out, and neither will Zuma.

But that's no reason to stock the bomb shelter and get a gun license. The USA didn't crumble and fall despite all Bush's fuck-ups, and neither will SA. We may come close, and circle the drain once or twice like they did, but we won't actually make it through the plug-hole.

And that's because shit never does. And we have so many piece-of-shit politicians attached to us, that really, there's no call for concern. Politicians are more like ticks. Shitty ticks. They latch on to a system and try their very hardest to suck as much out of it as possible before someone finds out, picks them off and squashes them. Occasionally they get to breed. But generally they keep a low profile unless they sit too high up or become too fat to remain unnoticed.

And the funny thing about politics is that someone is always in trouble with the politicians. Desmond Tutu, during the apartheid era, was outspoken and generally despised by the then dispensation, which was characterised by its nationalist policies. Now, Tutu is in shit with the shot-callers again, the current dispensation, which is more and more being defined by its unofficially nationalist policies. It's strange how the ANC used to be called the liberal left wing group, and the NP was the conservative right wing group.

But for your politics to be left, right or centre, they have to have certain characteristics. It seems to me that these days, the people that used to be left, have gone over to the other side, and the people that used to be right  are now left. Why not simply recategorise them in terms of how much they screw the people, and call them Wham Bam Thankyou Mam's (WBTM) or Bend Over and Take it Like a Man (BOTLM). It's all much of a muchness anyway, but it could help to clarify a very murky situation.
