Well I saw this article in the latest Time Magazine about Auto-Tune, the new (90's) revolutionary pc tool to make people sing better. And there are all these funky ways that manufactured starlets like Bimbo Spears and Blue can make stacks of records with very little time and effort and still sound... well, let's face it, how they sound is second place to how they look. Really, they are more like very famous prostitutes with theme tunes. Anyway.
I think next time they do Grammys, (which are a big fuckin' joke in any case, while we're being honest here), they should divide all the prizes down the middle and give them all out twice. One category should be for all the over-produced, digitally manufactured and essentially plastic products they like to push on everyone over the radio, and the other category should allow actual musicians to compete with each other, so that there is no illusion about how utterly different it is, and real musicians can actually save some of that rare commodity, musical integrity.
There's nothing that will get a struggling - or not - artist to sell out as quickly as having to compete with a machine.
