With Beltaine / Hallowe'en (depending which hemisphere) fast approaching, I was thinking we would enter into a period of reflection and contemplation. Sort of like lying down in a grassy meadow on a late autumn afternoon, and watching the slow light golden the leaves, and hearing the humming buzzing chirping and trickling of various elements in the wild. And arching above you, feeling the immense grace of the blue sky, endless and yet still so personal.
And then my step-dad told me how all the markets are crashing and so many countries are getting bail-outs from their governments. Well, not so much bail-outs for most as simply guarantees, but still... It's all going to hell in a handbasket.
Well, I still like to believe that it's part of a global cycle that goes round and the worst is about to happen. Again, as it always does. Everyone always seems so surprised when this sort of thing hits, but if you watch stuff closely, you will notice that order seeks chaos and chaos will seek order, and so things go round in a cycle. If it happens once, it has certainly happened before, and will definitely happen again. Unless, of course, we manage to fuck it up properly and destroy what I laughingly term "civilisation" (not the game) as we know it. And then a new cycle will begin. Obviously without us, but then again, perhaps that's better.
Here's a Momentous Quotation: "The planet will always be endangered until Humanity realises that we are not the hosts, but merely one of the many guests, and start to act accordingly." - C B Martin van Huyssteen
So perhaps I got my reflective period after all. I think that if you actually stop and think about the shit that is going on at the moment - without the "well I can't do anything by myself" attitude - then maybe you can also decide how best to help in your own small way. Me? I do stuff and things and people benefit. It's all good. What about you? Taught anyone to read or write lately? Helped out a young couple when they were too embarrassed to buy a condom or the morning after pill? How does your own faith restrict you from making other people feel like they are worth something?
I think it's worth thinking about. How do I make this place better? How do I fuck it up? Think about it. Don't stop. Then you'll be on your way to becoming a creature worthy of the intellect you already possess.
