Here's something to cheer us all up and give us hope for the future:

"The Mpumalanga man who decapitated his Siberian Husky puppy with a chainsaw earlier this year has died in a car crash, according to newspaper reports.

Phillip Matthysen, 31, was thrown from his black Toyota Land Cruiser when it rolled several times on the R50 to Delmas in the early hours on Sunday, reported the Beeld newspaper on Tuesday.

Although the accident was thought to have taken place at 4am, it was only at 7am that a passing motorist called the police.

Matthysen was already dead when rescue workers arrived on the scene. He was thought to have been driving to his smallholding in Sundra at the time of the crash.

The Delmas magistrate's court fined him R10 000 (or 12 months' imprisonment) suspended for five years in July after he pleaded guilty to sawing off the puppy's head for killing his pet parrot in February.

He was also ordered to pay R5 000 to the Springs Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals.

Although Matthysen was allowed to keep his other dogs, the court ruled that he could never again own a Husky." - Sapa

I personally think the bastard should have been strung up by the toenails and beheaded with a chainsaw before they let him off with a slap on the wrist, but hey... we take what we can get in the way of justice, these days.
