Those of who've paid any attention to stuff I’ve written will know I absolutely love the idea behind creativecommons.org. Well two science fiction books have been released recently, both under creative commons licenses.
The first, by Cory Doctorow, is Someone Comes to Town, Someone Leaves Town. This is a third novel by Cory Doctorow, all of which have been released as a free download as well as standard books you can buy from a bookstore. So go to his site and give it a read, and if you like it, buy it.
The second is Accelerando, by Charles Stross. This book expands on a series of short stories published on Asimov’s Science Fiction magazine. Again, if you like it, buy it, help support the author and prove that allowing people to download the novel for free doesn’t mean the author can’t make a living.
An interesting link from Stross’ site is WikiBooks. Open content textbooks that anyone can edit, a very interesting idea that definitely needs as many contributors as it can get.
